Meeting Minutes
March 8, 2005
_____________________________________________________________________

1.  Meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. in the 1st floor caucus room of Memorial City Hall
In attendance were members: Mike Deming and Jim Hutchinson, staff members Mike Long and Alicia McKeen.  Guests included Steve & Christina Selvek.

2. Approval of Minutes:  As there is no quorum no votes will be called.

Mike Long reviews the plans for the Police and Fire Stations.  New PESH standards require two staircases in each building and consider these building separate.  Mike’s plan is to declare the premises as a single building, connecting the two structures over the existing flat roof to connect the buildings with fencing and a walk surface.  This will be place between the buildings above the APD Market St. access.  Recommends a dark color so it will remain “hidden”.  Jim H. recommends white vinyl to match the trim of the buildings and be easy maintenance.  Also recommends matching the pattern on the cupola.  The Board has no official control over the building but can make recommendations.  The final recommendation is to use pressure treated wood along the Market Street elevation, matching the wood details of the cupola, and paint them white.  The other railings and steps and in non-visible locations and are acceptable.

Christine Selvek – recommends that city landscapes be looked into being added to the cultural resources survey being done by David Taylor.

Mike Long – CLG annual report has been sent to the National Parks service and copies sent to HRRB members.

Looking for intern from Cornell for the summer.  Judith Wellman has someone from Oswego recommended to help with the Underground Railroad project.  Could possible have two interns.

Need a budget request for next year.  So far we have not been spending the money in the budgets that we do have.  Mike Deming recommends educational programs.  Jim H. asks if another intern can be hired. Other suggestions:
·       Send members to the Saratoga Conference
·       Get more people to help with studies
·       Have an intern design a training program
·       Have an architectural student review blue forms
·       Presentations and workshops

Mike Long has expressed interest in hosting an APA conference in Auburn in 2006 and would like to tie in with Preservation.

Mike Deming – suggests workshops dealing with ice – ventilation/insulation and foundation, brick, stone, mortar and chimneys

Mike Long – Judy Wellman is working on the status report for the Underground Railroad project.

A replacement is needed for Peter Gabak.  Christine Selvek expresses interest and has her resume. Also recommended is Anthony Bartolotta.

Mike reminded everyone that nominations are needed for Annual Preservation Awards.  Some nominees are Anthony Bartolotta, Allan Schellenberger, David Tucker and Bill Merritt.

Osborne Library - Mike Deming – people are still interested in the building but the price has not been decided on.  Would like an engineer to go through it.  Doesn’t want to let it go cheap just to have it returned or taken for taxes.  Prospective buyers need to be well informed of the work that will be involved.

Adjournment: Next meeting April 12, 2005 at Memorial City Hall at 7:00 P.M. – 1st floor caucus room.
